Services

Our church is much more than just the Sunday morning worship services.  We offer a multitude of activities for children and adults at various times during the week.

  • For Infants and Toddlers

We offer a nursery area for infants and toddlers that is adjacent to the sanctuary so parents are only steps away from their children as they drop them off with our trained staff of childcare workers.

Workers provide dependable care so parents may enjoy a worry free worship experience.  A restroom and changing table are available in the nursery area.

  • Three and Four Year Olds

Your three and four year olds will enjoy the age appropriate worship experience of the basement preschool room.  Play, teaching, crafts, worship and singing blend to keep children wanting to come back for more!

  • Elementary Age Programs

Children age five and up will enjoy beginning the worship service with their parents for the music portion of the adult service.  Especially enjoyable is the special Children's Message each week and the time with Pastor Carl as he brings Biblical principles alive with objects and stories that will entertain all ages.  After the Children's Message, the elementary age children go to Sunday School classes where they learn about the Bible and God's love for us.

Each year we also have several special programs geared to our elementary age group.  These include Vacation Bible School each summer as well as Christmas programs and other special events to help make being involved in church fun, and help the children develop their faith.

  • Junior and Senior High Youth

Junior and Senior High youth enjoy their own weekly meetings under the leadership of Cory and Mary Sorensen with guidance from Craig and Anissa Huffman.

Cory and Mary are full of energy and help with our Sunday morning praise music.  They bring the good news to life with movie clips, bible study and special activities.

Craig and Anissa each graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with specialties in youth and children's ministry.  Craig is currently Executive director of Camp Calvin Crest in Fremont, Nebraska, and Anissa is our Minister to Children and Families.  (That's Anissa teaching around the "campfire" at Bible school last year in the picture above this.)

Our youth meet for a weekly Bible study and have taken special activity excursions this past year to World's of Fun in Kansas City and to help serve food at the Open Door Mission in Omaha.

The Youth meet Wednesday nights at the church at 6:30.  There is not a regular meeting on Wednesdays in the summer, but special activities will be held from time to time. To go to the youth page, click here.

  • Adult Ministries

    The congregation gathers for worship

Adult ministries are many and varied.  They include:

Adult Sunday School Class meets each Sunday at 9:30 at the church.  This classroom style Bible study covers different books of the Bible and offers lively discussions for adults of all ages.

Family Prayer Service (where all we do is pray) led by our minister of healing and restoration, Addie Porter.  Each Tuesday at 7:00 our faithful prayer warriors meet to pray for our church, community, neighboring churches, pastors, local and national political leaders and the many special prayer requests we receive.  Pastor Carl likes to call this the "below the decks and behind the scenes" engine that drives our purpose as a church.

Men's Bible study meets each Wednesday at 9:00am. Our men's group goes beyond just a Bible Study. Together we do projects, laugh, study, grow, go fishing and camping, cook and enjoy ball games together.  In the picture below some of our men are "assisting" Helen with some advice on finishing concrete for our new storage shed.  Helen Andersen shows the men how to finish concrete!! She sings too!

Bible study at Golden Living Center meets each Wednesday at 9:30.  Our ladies enjoy studying the bible and learning from the wisdom of the nursing home residents.  Music is enjoyed by all.

Adult Choir meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 during the school year.  You don't need to be able to read music, we will teach you a part.  If you like to sing, you are welcome.  We have a lot of fun and we sing for the glory of God.  Our music minister, Hermine Ellison says,"We even need a few people who can lip sync" We are taking a break for the Summer but will be back at it in the fall.

Hand Chimes practice together for four weeks or so at a time and then do a special number.  Feel free to come join us for a song or two.  All ages are welcome.  Again, no musical experience is necessary, chimes can make even music majors feel like a fool at first, but once you catch on you can be playing like a pro in no time.  The chimes practice at 7:30 on Wednesday evenings.

Women's Ministries currently have two groups meeting, one on the first Thursday of the month called "Women of the Church".  This group generally meets at 2:00, but call the church because they might be meeting for lunch somewhere or taking a trip to the Safari Zoo at Mahoney State Park.  Don't let that fool you though, these ladies are serious about missions and complete several mission tasks each year.

The second group, "Sisters in Christ" meets on the second Thursday of the month in the evenings at 6:30.  They do a variety of activities to help build relationships and to reach out to our community with a special touch.  They study, laugh, pray, and play together.Ladies of the Church at a recent meeting

Dinners for Eight is a fellowship group that meets monthly for a meal in either homes or restaruants.  Often each person brings a portion of the meal to share with the group.  Sometimes this will include a pontoon boat trip on one of the area lakes, a lively game of cards or some other fun activity.  Call the church office if you are interested in joining a group as new groups are always forming.  This is a great way to make new friends and get to know others!

Topical Bible studies meet at various times and places.  Some meet at the church and others in private homes.

  • Missions and Mission Trips

As we are affiliated with three different denominations, we support many missions, both domestic and foreign through these denominations.  Our Women of the Church help with many of these denominational missions, whether it is by rolling bandages or filling shoeboxes with personal items.  As a church we support many local missions: food pantries, school supplies, and Christmas gifts for needy families just to name a few.  We also have selected some individuals to support, some working with large mission groups, others working independently.  Here is a sample of the missions and ministries we support.

Haiti Health Ministries was the destination for our mission trip in 2008.  Our group was blessed as they ministered to the patients who came to the clinic. Visit haiti Health Ministries

Nicolas and Chrissy Pitterson are a young couple we support as a church in their work with Youth With A Mission in Panama. Nicolas and Chrissy work with indigenous tribes, teaching in school and being house parents for a group of students. Visit YWAM Panama

Paul and Ellie Madsen are teachers in Spain.  They also work with students and have a great ministry with the high school students they teach.  Paul and Ellie are working with RCE International.  Get the latest updates here

Burt and Ruth Johnson are currently in China where Burt is taking language courses and Ruth is teaching.  Ruth is a native Chinese and Burt is adapting to life after being raised in the United States.  Burt and Ruth are just living their lives as Christians and making friends with Chinese people.  They hope to teach others by their example. Get the latest newsletter

Steve and Linda Walters work with the Navigators in their micro loan program in Africa.  Each year Steve takes several businessmen to African nations to teach business skills and strategic thinking to recipients of the loan program.  If you have business skills, you may be eligible to travel on one of these trips.  Since the recipients are college educated and speak English, this is one of the more non threatening trips to take. You may contact Steve and Linda here

Greg and Vicki Stout work with Safe Water International Ministries (S.W.I.M.) building and delivering small, hand held chlorinators to small villages in many countries.  These life saving devices open a path to bring the gospel, the eternal life saver!  You may visit their website here

Care-A-Van is a local transportation ministry begun through our church then spun off into its own seperate entity.  Care-A-Van, Inc. provides free transportation to the elderly and disabled of western Douglas County.  Most of the trips are to medical appointments but it also takes a bus trip twice a month to the Wal Mart on 168th and Maple Street.  Though we have no formal relationship with Care-A-Van, many of the volunteer drivers are from our church and they use our facilities for office space and to park vehicles.  Our pastor and several members of our church are on the Care-A-Van board.  To volunteer or if you need a ride, please call 402 359-8634 or email Care-A-Van at careavan01@yahoo.com

Community Garden plots are available to members of the community at large and are located on land behind the church building at the corner of West Street and Valley Street.  Please contact the church office to reserve a plot for next year.

  • Christian Camping Programs (All Ages)

We have the honor of having several Christian Camps to work with and each one has its own unique style of ministry and facility.  We support all of these camps as a church and send youth and adults to activities at each one.  Camping isn't just for kids in the summer anymore, as there are family activities scheduled throughout the year at each of these camps.

Camp Calvin Crest is our Presbyterian Camp and it is located in the bluffs overlooking the Platte River near Fremont.  You can access their website here

Camp Fontanelle is our local United Methodist Camp.  It is located just North of Fremont in a beautiful setting.  It features high ropes and tree houses.  You can access their website here

Moses Merrill Camp and Conference Center is our American Baptist camp.  It is located on 600 acres of timber on a bluff overlooking the Platte River valley near Linwood.  You can access their website here
